And we know it was originally for piano how exactly? It could have been a Piesn, hence mélodie, with the voice part rewritten for violin...

Could be his Mélodie No.2, Op.7 "Moment lyrique" for piano, though. Or it could be his Mélodie Op.6 "Pensée". Which it is, I'm guessing.
