VB 186 - er, maybe not? VB 182? hrm. Possibly Op.1 No.5 (which is VB 182). (ok. now confused.) (possibly first published during the composer's lifetime) ? - Schissel
Re No. 5 : Ouch, this is string quartet VB 182/ op.1 no.5 - there's a sound sample at allmusic.com (three of them; the first movement sound sample starts at around bar 102. Redirecting VB 186 to VB 182's probably a bad idea though considering that a page for VB 186 needs to be set up eventually though (if the material exists/is scanned in)... hrm. (There must be a different fix for this.)
There is a classic 1956 recording of no.4 in D VB 184 by the Grunfarb Quartet sometimes broadcast on Swedish Radio (see NCRecordings link above for downloadable version thereof), in addition to a recording of 4 of them for Musica Sveciae by the Lysell Quartet in 1990, another recording of some of them by the Joseph-Martin-Kraus-Quartett in 2000, and the complete set (I think) performed on Carus by the Salagon Quartet.
