Looking at the RISM entries, there seems to be quite a bit of the typical 18th-century publisher incoherence and chaos over opus numbers. It also gets to be a game of "who was first" - I suspect our Op.22 and 21 are the same thing from the RISM entries, but they've been known to drop the ball themselves now and again also. Has anyone sorted it out? I'll put in links to the things we have at RISM where possible so we can eventually put things where they belong....

Indeed. Seems to be a minefield that needs a bit of clearing up. Think I might leave it alone for now.

Looks like the English prints are likley to be the first ones - at least certainly from 1783 and beyond. He lived in Dorset from 1767 until 1773, then toured Europe (though London was still home base). Stayed in London pretty much from 1783 on - ultimately took over Longman and Broderip, made pianos, etc.

Yes. The German and French publishers have a tendency to create opus numbers for continuity in their own publishing catalogues.
