Commentary on the movements, etc. ⟨Angenehmes Wiederau, BWV 30a (Bach, Johann Sebastian) [#18309]
  • An Homage to Johann Christian von Hennicke.
Movements.
  1. Chorus: Angenehmes Wiederau. (D major)
A dance-like movement with chorus giving the ritornello to the strings instead of the other way around. This happens again, giving an AABB form.
  2. Recitativo (Schicksal, SAT): So ziehen wir. (B minor-G major)
Secco recitative, but the voices sing together as a quartet at "Dein Name soll." This happens again in No.12.
  3. Aria (Schicksal): Willkommen im Heil, willkommen in Freuden. (G major) An aria utilizing passepied rhythms.
  4. Recitativo (Glück): Da heute dir, gepriesner Hennicke. (A major) Secco recitative.
  5. Aria (Glück): Was die Seele kann ergötzen. (A major)
Uses syncopated rhythms popular at this point in time. The obbligato is a flute. Note the special effects, such as pizzicato and con sordino.
  6. Recitativo (Schicksal): Und wie ich jederzeit bedacht. (F minor-D major) Secco recitative.
  7. Aria (Schicksal): Ich will dich halten. (B minor) This movement is notable for its Lombard rhythms ("scotch snap").
  8. Recitativo (Zeit): Und obwohl sonst der Unbestand. (F minor-G major) Secco recitative.
  9. Aria (Zeit): Eilt, ihr Stunden, wie ihr wollt. (E minor) A gigue-like movement in 9/8. The unison violins contrast the solo violin of No.8.
  10. Recitativo (Elster): So recht! ihr seid mir werte Gäste. (G major-F minor) Secco Recitative.
  11. Aria (Elster): So, wie ich die Tropfen zolle. (B minor)
Another dance-like aria in 3/4 for tenor and continuo. The tenor moves freely and agilely above a relatively stable bass.
  12. Recitativo (Elster, SAB): Drum, angenehmes Wiederau. (G major-D major) Secco Recitative. See No.2.
  13. Aria [sic]: Angenehmes Wiederau. (D major) A reprise of the opening movement.
