Commentary on the movements, etc. ⟨Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ, BWV 33 (Bach, Johann Sebastian) [#18311]
Movements.
  1. [Chorale]¹: Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ.
A typical opening movement for a chorale cantata by Bach—The sopranos sing the chorale tune unadorned above a free imitative texture in the voices and independent instrumental material.
  2. Recitativo (Bass): Mein Gott und Richter. Secco recitative.
  3. Aria (Alto): Wie furchstam wankten meine Schritte. Muted first violins and pizzicato strings accompany the alto in unusual rhythms and daring harmonies.
  4. Recitativo (Tenor): Mein Gott, verwirf mich nicht. Secco recitative.
  5. Aria (Duet, Tenor, Bass): Gott, der du die Liebe heißt. Characterized by sweet parallel thirds and sixths, an aria making great use of the two oboes.
  6. Choral: Ehr sei Gott in dem höchsten Thron. A plain chorale.
