Commentary on the movements, etc. ⟨Christen, ätzet diesen Tag, BWV 63 (Bach, Johann Sebastian) [#18499]
Movements.
  1. Chorus: Christen, ätzet diesen Tag. A large-scale festive chorus, using the four trumpets (!) to great effect.
  2. Recitativo (Alto): O selger Tag! Recitative with string accompaniment.
  3. Aria (Soprano, Bass): Gott, du hast es wohl gefüget. An aria with obbligato oboe, which was replaced with organ in later (Leipzig) revivals.
  4. Recitativo (Tenor): So kehret sich nun heut. Secco recitative.
  5. Aria (Alto, Tenor): Ruft und fleht den Himmel an. A da capo duet aria using standard "duet" techniques.
  6. Recitativo (Basses): Verdoppelt euch demnach. Recitative with oboes and strings.
  7. Chorus: Höchster, schau in Gnaden an. Also highly festive, a movement finishing out the symmetry of this cantata.
