A complicated history ⟨Méthode pour le pianoforte (Pleyel, Ignaz) [#18579]

According to Benton, the method was first published - under Dussek's name only in a very different form - in 1796 as Dussek's instruction on the art of playing the piano forte or harpsichord. This first edition included only B.813, 815-18, and B.824, but also added the 6 Duos, B.574-579, titled as Six Progressive Sonatas, as a supplement. The next edition, published by the composer in 1797 or so (the address can only be traced to 1799) dropped the Duos and added 18 additional keyboard pieces to incorporate B.801-824. The 3 remaining works (B.825-827), arranged from Pleyel's duos B.526, 528 and quartet B.365, first appeared in Hoffmeister's third edition of 1804 (RISM A/I: P 4959⁸).
