Composition history, orchestrations, etc. ⟨5 Mélodies populaires grecques, M.A 4-5, 9-11 (Ravel, Maurice) [#26315]
  • Composed for voice and piano in 1904 (Nos.3 & 4) and 1905–06 (Nos.1, 2 & 5)
  • No.1 was arranged for voice and orchestra by Ravel at an unknown date, under the title Le réveil de la mariée
  • No.5 was also arranged for voice and orchestra by Ravel at an unknown date.
  • Nos.2 to 4 were arranged for voice and orchestra by Manuel Rosenthal (1904–2003) in 1935, and published with Ravel's orchestrations of the other two songs in the set. These seem to have either not been renewed in the USA or published with a fatal error as Kalmus reprinted score and parts, along with Luck's Music Library.
  • Three other songs written for this set in 1904 have been lost. They were
  1. A vous, oiseaux des plaines, M.A 6
  2. Chanson de pâtre épirote, M.A 7
  3. Mon mouchoir, hélas, est perdu, M.A 8
  • Marnat's cataloging of these as arrangements seems to be an error as Calvocoressi worked from Greek traditional texts for his French version, which was set to music composed by Ravel.
