Hello,
Even if this is an urtext edition from 1998 and we potentially cannot accept this until 2024, one issue you overlooked is you provided no information on the first publication, performance, broadcasting or delivery of the work itself before 1971 for Canadian Copyright (since the composer died in 1958). Because the composer died after 1949, we have to have this information for us to accept this, even as an urtext edition. I looked on here (look towards the bottom) and specifically did not show anything of a "22 Choralimprovisationen" but many of the movements in this is part of the "37 kurze choralimprovisation" (as a larger work of 50 of these choral improvs the composer was planning to do), which mostly likely means if the 22 improvisations is the first publication in 1998 or these were never performed during the composer's lifetime.
So unfortunately, unless you or someone else can provide this critical info, this is going to have to be deleted.
Also keep in mind since I also see no copyright notice, notices are not required after 1989.

Well it turns out according to here on the University of Iowa site, this is actually a first edition, not a urtext/critical edition, this is a major difference regardless so we cannot accept at all until 2029 when the EU copyright is up for the composer.

| Got it, thank you for catching this!
Deleting it for now seems like the right call. If I find any proof of these chorales being published earlier, I'll be sure to include that in any resubmission before 2029.

| Have to be published in some way before 1972.

| hi Sallen, I don't have any more info on this collection of pieces by Bunk, but I did want to ask about a few things you mentioned in your first message.
The 1949 date above – does this mean that for composers who died in 1948 or earlier, it's OK to share editions of their music on IMSLP, even if the first publication of their works was long after their death, as long as the score doesn't contain editorial "additions" and is at least 25 years old?
The reason I'm asking is that I have some music by Dora Pejacevic and Ethel Smyth, which I don't think was first published until the 1980s (for Pejacevic) or 2003 (for Smyth), and I'm wondering if I'll be able to post those as long as the normal 25-year period for urtexts applies.
As an additional question, what did you mean about 1989 and copyright notices? Does that mean, if the book is published in 1989 or later, it doesn't matter whether the © symbol appears anywhere, but it does matter for editions published in 1988 or earlier? I'd love to hear more about that.
Thanks for your help!

Yes these should be fine to have on here as long as it doesn't add any newly creative additions to the edition in question. It will only be under copyright in the USA most likely because the underlying work is already in the public domain in both Canada and the EU.

This is what I mean. For works published within 1978-1989 in the USA only (this does not involve Canada or the EU). After 1989, the copyright symbol and date is no longer required for copyright protection because its automatically applied.
