How to extract from larger PDF? ⟨User:Fugalicious [#35756]

I was wondering how you extracted parts of a larger PDF (such as the Buxtehude organ works, see Special:ReverseLookup/834956). Especially how you got the text that says "Contains: #1831311 (pp.50-56)". I couldn't find a tutorial about how to do this, sorry. What steps should I take? Or is it a separate file?

Hi Will,

Happy to help! I can say a bit about this. I'm using the skin for IMSLP called "Vector" and use the site in English, so when I mention UI elements, I'm going by what I can see under those settings.

First, go to the work page where you want to submit the score (or create a new work page). Click Add file. The default option under the Source picker is "Upload file (default)". Change that to "Already uploaded file" and click Go.

Under the field File #1, this is where you'll put the reference to the existing file. The format of this is pdf://fileNumberOfSourceFile/pageRangeSeparatedByADash.

For the Buxtehude example you mentioned, what I'd have put next to File #1 is pdf://831311/50-56. In case you want to see IMSLP file 831311 to see how the prelude in F major fits into the larger file, file 831311 here: https://imslp.org/wiki/Complete_Organ_Works_(Buxtehude,_Dietrich)

Let me know if you have any questions! The place where I learnt about this is this thread with Carolus: https://imslp.org/index.php?title=Special:WikiForum&thread=24195

Thank you!! I didn't realize that it was a different skin...thank you for explaining this to me. One thing I noticed is that the page range should include the final page-number of the PDF, not one higher as if it was in a "for loop".

This will be hugely helpful because I like uploading manuscripts of early music to IMSLP and uploading sections to the work pages.

Great, I'm so happy this was helpful! That's right, the range includes both ends. You can also put just one number if you want to extract a single page.

There's some documentation about this feature on another page as well: https://imslp.org/wiki/IMSLP:Pseudo-URLs#Combining_or_extracting_from_existing_PDF.28s.29

Thanks for this! I wish I had found this page myself, I wouldn't have had to bother both of you.

Thanks, Pnorkcs; I didn't know about the feature for combining PDFs!
