IMSLP #12688221 Fantasias for 3 Viols (Jenkins, John) [#36494]

There are numerous errors in these 21 scores, mostly the result of missing accidentals and, especially, faulty enharmonic spelling. This is compounded by Jenkins' often-used technique of modulation through remote keys. Fantasia VdGS#10 is a good example where the music modulates upward through the circle of fifths and, if carried to its natural conclusion would begin in E minor and end in D double-sharp minor. Any sane score must at some point switch from sharps to flats and the modulation continues by shedding flats. Folop does make this shift but in a tentative and contradictory way at measures 62-67. The second treble part in measure 63 is a particularly ugly example. What is actually a smooth diatonic scale of F# E# D# C# B# going into m64 becomes a bizarre combination of chromatically altered notes with a diminished third "leap".
