I think P,davydov has elected to use the format found in Mozart and Haydn for this type of situation: Cello Sonata in F major, G.1 instead of the schema we tried at one point for the Haydn symphonies Cello Sonata, G.1, F major. You can always make things sort by number as we do with the Scarlatti sonatas, by putting the sorting into a category designation at the very bottom of the page - e.g. [[Category:Boccherini, Luigi|Cello Sonata, G.001]]. Boccherini is kind of a mess as it stands with all the opus numbers and the G numbers competing.
PS: DEFAULTSORT does not work on work pages, though it appears to work for composer category pages. That's why we had to resort to what we did for the Scarlatti sonatas. Using the "chart" feature is quite revealing also in terms of what things create havoc for the APIs which read the site from the back end.
