Chelleri, Trio Sonata ⟨User:Tim.willis1685 [#8072]

Dear Tim: I notice that the actual manuscript for this work only says "Trio", and Grove lists "Trios" by him, but not a Trio Sonata for this combination. Since RISM doesn't have an entry with this incipit, I can't find a source for a "sonata" tag. Where did you get this title? Thanks, Becky

I assumed it was a Trio Sonata, being a multi-movement piece for 2 instruments and continuo. There are many such pieces with just "Trio" written on the manuscript which have been called Trio Sonatas on IMSLP. for example, there are no "Trios" here by Telemann. Similarly, there are many baroque violin sonatas are called "violino solo" but it would make no sense to call them "solo".

Yes, but tagging by title, then the tag would be "trio". There is no "solo" tag.

Have a look here: http://gallica.bnf.fr/Search?ArianeWireIndex=index&p=1&lang=DE&q=Chelleri%2C+Fortunato On this page: "Beschreibung : Titre uniforme : [Sonates en trio. Violon ou flûte, viole de gambe, bc. Sol majeur]"

Thanks -- then at least there is one scholarly source that refers to it that way. B
