Glazunov Spring, Op.34: Alto Oboe? (Go to Notenschreiber's page) ⟨User:Tim.willis1685 [#8266]

Hi Tim.Willis since you had an interest in the oboe d'amore, I thought you might be interested in this discussion below, it is from Notenschreiber page since he is an oboist and might know more about this. This is from Cypressdome's page:

»I didn't feel like retyping from his page. Since you uploaded the parts, here is the link to the discussion on Notenschreiber's page about the Alto Oboe if you might know what this instrument is: http://imslp.org/index.php?title=Special:WikiForum&thread=8264«

Hello, I am really only interested in music from earlier periods, so I can't really comment. If the Alto Oboe is playing in A while the ordinary oboes are in D, then that implies that the Alto in this case is an instrument in F. I would guess Cor Anglais, but I'm not very familiar with the wind instruments that were used at this time. It might be irrelevant, but in baroque oboe bands, the Taille Oboe (in F) was considered the alto instrument in oboe bands. The Cromorne was the tenor.

Here is an article about the oboe relatives from the baroque period: http://www.culturekiosque.com/klassik/features/ra1haut.htm
