Though the subtitle says "melodrama", that tag (strictly speaking) involves narration. This work, a grand production, incorporates oratorio, stage play, and dance, but there is no narration. Therefore, the best tag will be sacred oratorios.
First published from the manuscript in 1987. Should strictly speaking be mch (male voices), not SSATB/SATB; female voices would not have been used (according to the Syracuse University catalog description of the 1987 publication, which includes substantial critical notes.) (They file it not under oratorios but under Festival Opera.) The use of melodrama to mean narration is a newer thing, but that is our use of it here. Final word on tagging from Davydov -- However, as Davydov points out, the tagging rules are clear: if the subtitle says Melodrama, then "melodramas" is the correct tag. And there is some spoken dialogue, though how much is not clear, as it is not included in the orchestral score.
