Scan quality: 600 dpi grayscale
Manually rotate to the correct angle and crop edges
Use photoshop camera raw filter to increase contrast
Apply bitmap (50% threshold) and resize resolution to below 4000*5400
Add blank space with "canvas size" to make sure the size of every page is 4000*5400
Everything above except manually rotating and cropping can be done with automated photoshop script.
Also note that most scores engraved manually don't need as high as 4000*5400 resolution, especially ancient scores (published before 1900). Scores typsetted by computers is clear enough under this resolution (Bärenreiter's Beethoven Symphony is typsetted by computers) Orchestral scores are readable under this resolution, but it would be better to increase the resolution.
