Although the works were composed in London, JC Bach's visit to the electoral court at Mannheim in 1772 explains the dedication. S.Sadie's edition is based on the original London edition but variants in other contemporary versions are said to have been considered. The works can be performed as quintets without keyboard support.
Sadie's editions have a figured bass. Does this mean that the original London edition also has figures in the bass part? Or should everything above (except the Sieber ca.1774 publication) be treated as arrangements?
