1950s on- modern, iirc. Composition concluded 1954 May 28 (see BNF entry.) As with many other chamber symphonies (Schoenberg, etc.) instruments are all arguably treated more as soloists than "in the mass" (one reason why all the performers in the 1999 concert are listed.)

Final work (or complete work?) apparently? (though the two unfinished symphonies, 4 and 5, both predate this- still, always possible there are unfinished works he was working on after it too? Will have to find a copy of Bentoiu and some other related books...)- ES
