Extra Information | "Basso" part contains T.S. (tasto solo) indications, which means that the passage should be played without realised harmony. Implies the use of continuo in this work. A claimed first edition of this work was published by Musica Rara in 1961 with Stanley Sadie as editor (Plate M.R.1068). In his introduction (1962) the latter declares he based his edition on the original one in the British Museum (press-mark, g.435.(2.)). The original edition has a figured bass part, probably not the work of J.C.Bach. Apart from obvious corrections, S.Sadie's edition adds phrasings in lighter type. This quartet was the third of a series published under the title Six Quartettos for a German Flute, Violin, Tenor and Bass or Two Violins, a Tenor and a Bass, by Messrs. Bach, Abel and Giardini. J.C.Bach wrote nos.1, 3 and 5 of this set. Abel contributed nos.2 and 4, Felice Giardini, no.6. |
