This is a modern-classical (i.e. neo-romantic) horn concerto. It has been revised technically to improve the playability of the horn part, lastly in 2014. However it remains very very challenging. But therefore it has a symphonic allure, merely because of the proportions and the recurring Leitmotiv and heroic main theme of the 1st movement. The 1st movement is moderately fast and in sonata form. The 2nd movement is slow and also in (a free) sonata form. The final movement is fast and in rondo form, with a very catching main theme. There are cadenzas in the 1st and final movement. Digital recording in Sibelius 6 with Kontakt Gold. On June 12th, 2017 Dries Laureyssens (horn) and a pianist gave a public performance of all movements of this concerto, in an arrangement made by the soloist for horn and piano, in Antwerp, Royal Conservatoire, Belgium, at his public exam (in attendance of the composer).
