Misc. Comments

  • Incidental music to the play, Le fils des étoiles, by Josephin Peladan. Originally for orchestra but never published in that form.
  • Stephen Moore Whiting, in his book Satie the bohemian: from cabaret to concert hall, mentions another work, Upsud which Satie scored for flutes and harps, but the flute parts exceed the range of the flute. He feels the reference to flutes and harps make far better sense if taken for stops on a harmonium, then says that the same could apply to Le fils des étoiles. In other words it is possible that the flutes/harps instruction was not intended as the actual instrumentation. Grove lists the instrumentation as "fls, hps/hmn".
  • Preludes to each of 3 acts here arranged for piano.
