Instrumental Works

  • Concert Overture in A minor for Military Band (1878). Unpublished and lost. Bird's arrangement for piano 4-hands survives in manuscript at the LC. The work has been re-arranged for military band by Robert W. Dunham and published by Maestro and Fox.
  • Galop for Military Band (c.1908-10). Bird's 27 page manuscript score and the manuscript parts are at the LC as is an autograph score of 12 pages for piano 4-hands. This is possibly Bird's Op.47.
  • Minuet for String Quartet
  • Suite in D major for Wind Instruments (c.1889). Bird's 181 manuscript score (bound with Op.40) is at the LC. Manuscript parts are at the LC (identified as Suite für blasinstrumente so not sure if the same. Consisting of the following:

  • Suite in D major for 10 Wind Instruments. Bird's 180 page manuscript score is at the LC. (Not sure if this is different from the one above)
Probably- almost definitely?- the same: This was published in a modern edition in 2011 and is given Op.29 in some sources. It is the subject of Andrea Elizabeth Brown's 2010 thesis, downloadable online (53-page PDF from U. North Carolina, Greensboro) (she also edited the 2011 edition). The movements, listed in her table of contents of the PDF (which contains also many brief music examples as well as a detailed analysis), are identical to those above (Allegro moderato, etc.) She dates the work to 1889.
