FARTEIN VALEN |
The Fartein Valen Society Edition is a series of selected works by Fartein Valen (1887-1952), which were distributed to members and patrons of the Society¹. Each volume is printed from the same unaltered plates as those used in the standard editions by Harald Lyche & Co. The main importance of the edition is therefore as a primary source for documenting the activity and active years of the Valen Society. It is also a document of (at least some of) their different chairmen over time.
The edition can be identified by its beige covers, which, in addition to the Lyche plate nos., are printed with separate edition numbering. Each printed copy is also individually numbered and signed by the Valen Society’s chairman and honorary secretary.
The edition contains 18 known volumes. Considering currently available sources, it is not known with certainty whether any additional volumes were printed or planned.
Editors are generally uncredited in the edition, and external sources are sparse. This is an incomplete list.
