Ernest Newman (1868-1959); English text by Robert H. Hamilton (s.a.)
Boston : O. Ditson, 1919. (From the collection Modern Russian Songs)
Original artsong in D-flat major. Despite the indications at the top of this piece, it was modified somewhat (besides being transposed to E-flat major) for the opera Noblewoman Vera Sheloga, which itself derives from the first act of Mey's play The Maid of Pskov and constitutes the separable prologue to the composer's opera of the same name.
