Extra Information
Grainger made at least 5 settings of this Irish melody - numbered as 5, 6, 15, 20 and 29 of his British Folk Music Settings. Nos.5 (chorus), 6 (piano) and 15 (2 horns and strings) are basically the same apart from performing forces (32 bars - 33 if one counts the pickup measure) and about 4 minutes in length. No.20 (for wind band) is the same in duration and harmony but it is 64 bars thanks to Grainger's different notation (the eighth-notes of the earlier setting have changed to quarter-notes). In contrast, No.29 (optional wordless chorus, orchestra and pipe-organ, orchestra, or 'elastic scoring') is an altogether different setting about 6 minutes in duration with a much more dissonant harmonization. This item will ultimately have its own page here at IMSLP because it's a different work.
