Misc. Comments

  • Grove Music does not list the flute part, although RISM does. However, the RISM entry says "C. A. T. B. Con 5 instromenti", and the string parts + continuo add up to 5 without the flute part. The RISM entry also says the copyist was "Schreiber: Düben, Gustav <1628c-1690>", so this is not an autograph manuscript or an official first edition. On the other hand, Grove Music says there are 2 versions, but does not elaborate on what the differences are. Since the flute part anyway doubles 1st violin for the entire piece, it is left out of the tag.
  • After the Sinfonia, the Aria is composed over a chaconne bass.
