Navigation etc.

Grove lists the instrumentation as 2 violins, basso. The basso part is clearly a cello part with no numbers for realization. Friedrich Noack in his Postface to his edition of the work wrongly refers to the only available source being in the Darmstadt State Library gutted by fire during an air raid in September 1944. However he was able to save a copy he had made in 1926 on which he based his later edition. He goes on to stress that the work is for soloists, without the need for a figured bass.
