Misc. Notes If this was found at archive.org, they no longer seem to have it (or my attempt to find it turns only some of the other volumes up, not vol.1 which would have Op.2 (actually, from HMB, Op.2 starts from 65, 1844: pp.162, 178)). Good on Trautwein for releasing most of the Haydn quartets in the 1840s though...

Misc. Comments

Quartet no.2 exists in a manuscript version for Lute and String Trio (Quartetto a Liuto obligato, Augsburg Stadtbibliothek) and published in 1924 by H.D.Bruger (Kallmeyer edition) without his realizing its origin. The lute part was produced by some contemporary of Haydn by the simple expedient of combining the Violin and the bass parts but an octave lower than the original parts which is why a corrected arrangement of the quartet for lute (or guitar) and string trio was made by Karl Scheit in 1959 (Doblinger, 1960, plate D.10.152).

The Hummel edition of Op.2 has Op. 2 nos. 1, 2, 4, 6 and also arrangements of 2 cassations by Haydn with the horn parts removed. This, and the Le Chevardière "Op.3" of the same (1766) year (which publishes three of the same works, and one wholly spurious work), also has those two cassations (opp.2 nos. 3 and 5.) We don't list them under Haydn's cassations, but the cassations are regarded as the original forms, not vice versa (Hob. II:21, 22.)- ES
