Davaux's string quartets were ranked highly by his contemporaries. This is his first set. Although (at least in my opinion) it suffers in comparison with Davaux's excellent Op.9 published six years later, it is very interesting as an early example of the French string quartet tradition. In Op.6, concertante elements are present mainly in the violin voices, while the other parts are still subordinate. Cgo
