There is a mistake with this file. Piano Sonata No. 49 is in c sharp minor. Perhaps this is No. 40, and there's been some mistake?
- This sonata, in E-flat major, is listed 49th in series 16 (Piano sonatas) of Anthony Hoboken's catalog of Haydn's works. Thus, it is listed as Sonata No. 49 here. In some editions (for example, the Vienna Urtext edition edited by Christa Landon) the numbering is different, taking into account ten early sonatas not recognized by Hoboken. In that edition, this sonata is numbered 59. There is no universally agreed upon ordering of the sonatas, and since Hoboken's catalog is the oldest and most well-established catalog of Haydn's works, it's probably best to use his numbering.
