Hi Ananth! Just to let you know that he's been moved to Muttusvāmi Dīkṣita in accordance with IMSLP's naming guidelines. Thanks for the uploads, by the way - Asian music is something that is largely neglected on this site, which at present contains mainly European and North American music. Hi Ananth, I am part of the tagging team that tags pieces so they can be found in their correct categories. I would like to know if this would be considered a song or a chant, or whatever else. We generally go by what is in the title, which in this case doesn't give us an obvious category, so then it would go by the generic, which would be "song". Would that be accurate? (Steltz)
Hi, Ananth, thanks for the answer. I've tagged Maha Ganapathim, but now I have another question about Chalamela Varnam. If it is for violin only, i.e. not vocal, then we don't tag for language, and the generic is "pieces", not "songs". Of course, if the title translates as something that we can get a tag from, I can use that. Can you tell me a little more about the piece and give me a translation of the title? Thanks, Steltz
Thanks for the answer, now I have another question. Would this originally have been a vocal piece? Preferably, we tag according to original instrumentation. If, for instance, a violin piece is not the original, it goes under a heading ===Arrangments and Transcriptions=== with the next line =====For {specific instruments or whatever the voice type is, with the arranger in brackets, if known}=====. When I finish this one, you can have a look to see how the headings work. For now, I need to know what the original would have been. Thanks, Steltz
Hi again Ananth, and thanks for making an effort to follow our composer names guideline! Just one small thing: the LC record sometimes includes honorifics or titles in their headers; these are generally not included in the IMSLP form of the composer name. (This is detailed in the guideline, but it is very much fine print.) Therefore, I've moved his category to simply Tyāgarāja, removing the title 'Swami'.
