- Possibly the manuscript draft or even manuscript of the final version (some crossed-out whole sections?? suggest probably not quite final), of the slow movement of one of Lachner's larger works; at a guess, I would even suggest it might be from his symphony no.6 in the same key, op.56, from 1837, the same year BSB (the source of this Andante) suggests as date for this work. (Though see talk page.) I have not seen the score of, nor heard, symphony no.6 (which is one of half of Lachner's 8 symphonies to have been published during his lifetime - or even, I think, at all up to 2011) - but have tried to contact someone who is acquainted with the score about this with a link. (Symphony 6's Andante is in B major (that is, H-dur) and I have now heard the entire symphony; no part of that work - not the slow introduction to the first movement, not the slow movement - sounds related to this Andante. Hrm. Might be worth trying to extract the parts and typesetting them, sometime; will see about that, though not soon... too many other undone projects. The 6th symphony is fine stuff, btw. - ES (Note: it was republished by MPH in 2011.))
- RISM and D-Mbs now (May, 2017) identify this work as the original (?) slow movement of the Symphony No.6, Op.56. D-Mbs, Mus.ms. 5748 is a copy (apparently dated 1837) of this original andante for piano 4 hands.
RISM now explains: this is an early version of the slow movement of the 6th symphony, later replaced by the B major movement currently in 2nd place in that symphony. Problem solved. -- ES
