Miscellaneous information
- Formerly considered to have been the daughter of a Mr Alfred Hoare, Albert Ketèlbey's London landlord. However, the Florence in question cannot be Daisy Florence Hoare, the daughter of music professor Alfred Wolfgang Sebastian Hoare (1857-1913), as she was born in 1885 and would have been too young in 1892, the time of the earliest attributed publications. However, Alfred W. S. Hoare's wife, Annie Florence Labrow Hoare (née Stanton, later Wells, later Caunt) is well attested in census records as a "Librettist & Lyric Author" (1901 Census, 1911 Census). They married in 1884. She often appears referenced as Miss Florence Hoare, notably in Hadow's Songs of the British Islands - it seems likely that she sometimes used this title as part of her pen name.
- Further confirmation is to be found in August 1893 in Musical Opinion & Music Trade Review, when after one of her poems Florence Hoare gives her correspondence address as 10 Hillmarton Road. This is the address that A. W. S. and A. F. L. Hoare lived at ca.1892-1913.
