Miscellaneous information
The names Franz Anton Horneck and Franz Jakob Horneck seem to refer to the same figure; a bassoonist and priest under the employment of the elder brother of the amateur cellist Rudolf Erwein von Schönborn, who is responsible for building an impressive collection of manuscripts of cello repertory from the late 17th- early 18th century. Horneck traveled to Italy, presumably at the behest of his employer, first to Venice (Nov. 1708 - Mar. 1709) and then to Rome. Recent studies have shown that Horneck was not the copyist of the Vivaldi cello concertos RV 402, 416, 420, and that he probably did not meet Vivaldi, unlike what has been handed down in critical literature. He later worked as a priest in Erfurt and Würzburg. The Deutsche Digital Biblithek gives his dates as 1690 - 1724 (Dresden), although other sources suggest these dates as approximates only.
