Often confused with Karl Kohaut, also a lutenist composer, but apparently no relation. Joseph Kohaut lived most of his life in France, where he was a musician in the service of Louis-François de Bourbon, Prince of Conti. Since this job title is often mentioned on printed title-pages, it is usually easy to tell them apart.
