Musical Times has 16 October, LoC has 14 October. BNF has 15 October, however (using Baker's as source- while also mentioning 16 October as an alternate, at least when accessed on 5 July 2014.) At least one library and a few websites have 1842 for birthyear, and this is also the date given on his gravestone ( see description of grave in Père-Lachaise cemetery, Paris )
