Miscellaneous information
Aleksandr Gavrilovich Tiniakov was initially a pupil of the Imperial Court Chapel in St. Petersburg during the period when
Mily Balakirev served as its director, and later became a composer. He participated in Balakirev’s musical gatherings in the 1900s. Although Balakirev suggested in one of his letters to P. Jurgenson that Tiniakov’s waltz - most likely Valse mélancolique, Op. 2 - be published, this never occurred. His piano works, including Opuses 1–8, were ultimately issued by the firm of J. Zimmermann between 1900 and 1914.
