Category talk:Bolognani, Mario

Management consultant and former teacher at the Polytechnic of Milan, University of Pisa, University “Magna Graecia” and University of Rome “Sapienza”, Mario was involved, since 1964, in early music studying and playing. At present he plays the baroque “flauto traversiere” in "Diletto Barocco", a chamber orchestra in Rome (Italy), whose components are professional and amateur musicians, involved in a project for giving new life to unpublished and/or rarely executed music scores.

He is owner and editor of baroquemusic.it, a site collecting modern editions of music from the 17th and 18th century, dedicated to amateur and professional musicians. The scores are transcribed from original printed or manuscript sources using LilyPond, an open source project, to generate urtext editions. Selection of authors and music favors unedited music and less known authors.

baroquemusic.it, founded in 2005, collects now, June 1st, 2017, about 750 scores with separate parts and midi files, for over 27.000 pages of baroque music. About 10 new scores are added every month. The average of users per month is more than 2.000, with about 4.500 sessions per month. Content is available under the CC License 4.0 International, BY NC ND.

The problem of funding the activities of the site: i. e. obtaining manuscripts and ancient printed editions not online available, web development, transcription of music and hosting the site, is becoming progressively relevant. For this reason, I decided to put in place a simple six-month or 1-year subscription system, with the aim of collecting resources capable of supporting operations, maintenance and development of the site. Subscribers will have access to all scores, separate parts and midi files for the duration of subscription.
