Copyright Status in the United States

I noticed several works composed after 1923 (including the last three sonatas) do not carry the "Non-PD US" label; I don't mean to be a thorn in anybody's side, but doesn't US copyright law protect these? (I ask mainly because I am very interested in some of these works, but don't want to violate copyright by downloading them. Any clarification would be immensely appreciated.)

The fact that something was published after 1922 is not a guarantee that it is protected in the USA. Since many works were not published with the requisite copyright notice, or no renewal was filed after 28 years, they entered the PD in the USA long ago. There was a two-year window for GATT restoration, and a number of his post-1922 works remain available in a reprint edition, which is an indication that the work in question is most likely free in the USA. I see. Thanks for the clarification! The.Ineffable.Neutrino 18:26, 17 April 2009 (EDT)
