Rejected continuation of the second piece (to follow bar 26) reproduced in appendix of SW V/9. Second half of No.2 used in final scene of act 2 of the 1926 Cardillac. Hindemith adapted the third piece for mechanical (Welte) piano.

A collection of sketches is preserved in Yale University 's Hindemith Archives under the title (presumably the composer's own): "Sammlung frisch gelegter Klavier-Eier" (A Collection of Freshly-laid Piano Eggs). Numbers 11 and 12 also referred to in manuscript as "Ernstes Stück" and "Lustiges Stück," respectively.
