First published in 1884, but the Sibley copy is part of a later series. (This is mentioned in the preface by Mantze. Further detail is provided by HMB: Hofmeister's Monatsbericht (1884), p.149 - publication " Quartettino (Gm.) f. 2 Streich-, 1 Diskant- u. 1 A.-Z" apparently ? without opus number; republished in 1886, given (if HMB is not omitting opus 42 itself) the opus number on publication by the same company around 1887 (Hofmeister's Monatsbericht (1887), p.304.) In each case these seem to be zither-quartets, that is, two string-zithers, one discant-zither and one alto-zither. So this seems to be an arrangement...
