This is one of the "Ten Songs" published by Somervell consisting of his lyrics set to his piano arrangements of 18th century Italian opera arias. The songs are not translations of the arias, although the original Italian lyrics were printed below the English text. (“In this volume, 'A suoi piedi' from Tamerlano, a dramatic aria in which a father denounces the daughter he believes to be disloyal, becomes 'Lovely summer! Rides the sun in glory above'!” Carl Johengen, “Arias from Handel’s Operas: A Guide to Selected Existing Sources and A Rationale for New Useful Editions.”) The cover of the volume attributes the music to Handel, but the table of contents acknowledges that two of the arias had been attributed to “G.B. Buononcini”. That authorship is confirmed in RISM.
