Extra Information First printing of the Toccata in Paris by Bailleux (in Quatre Ouvertures ... et Deux Sonates), advertised April 1784 - an unauthorized edition, under the erroneous title Sonata. Hence the wording in the title of the first English edition (Kerpen; advertised May 1784): "famous Toccata" and "corrected by the Author".

Misc. Comments

In the Litolff collection the Toccata comes at the end of the well known Sonata Op.47 No.2 and the present Sonata shows up as Sonata Op.20.
