The subtitle was Sammlung auserlesener Werke f. Pfte. (Originale u. Bearbeitungen) (Collection of selected works for piano (Original and Arrangements) ) The original edition was published in 1877-78, and the new series from 1887. There were at least 43 volumes by 1914.
Not to be confused with the book series Unsere klassischen Meister by Otto Gumprecht, 1823-1900, published by Haessel in 1886
