211228: I am new to IMSLP and new to music transcription. I hope to make a contribution to this site, and to scholarship, by posting works of interest to me as I come across them. My debut is a cantata by Christoph Graupner, a composer I had not heard of before last Oct. I started learning Musescore as a way to keep up with new pieces thrown at my church choir by our energetic Dr. Tom Peterson, Choirmaster at Christ Church of the Ascension in Paradise Valley, AZ and Asst. Conductor of the Phoenix Chorale. He asked if I would be willing to take on Graupner's GWV 1105/44, "Freude, Freude über Freude" for Christmas Eve services, 2021. The result is a set of scores: a full transcription of Parts I and VI; a vocal score of the same which the choir performed as Offertory and Communion pieces, respectively; individual string quartet scores; and transcriptions of Parts II - V, which we did not perform. I hope to continue with other Graupner works, which I understand are many and have been somewhat neglected since his passing in 1760. Here's to beautiful music, reawakened after long slumber.
