I am primarily a freelance bassoonist in Auckland, New Zealand. I was the Principal Bassoonist of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra for 17 years and am currently 1st bassoon in the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and Bach Musica in Auckland. While I was the APO's Music Librarian, I returned to arranging and composing, which I had dabbled with as a teenager. The later use of MIDI sequencers and sound modules, rather than relying on pencil and manuscript paper, gave me the tools to improvise keyboard inspirations, them fine tune the MIDI recordings and orchestrate them into compositions for full orchestra and other ensembles. With over 60 works created between 1995-1998, I now have a huge mission in my semi-retirement to finish typesetting the scores and parts and submit these to IMSLP so they can be performed more widely.
