These songs are also included in the collection published by Russian musicologist Yevgeny Vladimirovich Gippius as part of his doctoral thesis in 1956, with a few minor differences:

  • No. 9 is presented as a "second version" of No. 8,
  • No. 20 is presented as a second version of No. 19 (both referred to as No. 18 in Gippius’ book),
  • No. 28 is presented as a second version of No. 27 (both referred to as No. 25),
  • No. 38 is presented as a second version of No. 39 (both referred to as No. 35).

The last of these 40 songs is the famous Song of the Volga Boatmen (see also Wikipedia article).
