The two orchestral suites were arranged after Bizet's death by Ernest Guiraud (1837-1892), based on Bizet's orchestration of the original operatic score. Suite No.1 comprises:

  1. Prélude
    "Fate" motive from Prelude to Act I
  2. Aragonaise
    Interlude (Entr'acte) before Act IV
  3. Intermezzo
    Interlude (Entr'acte) before Act III
  4. Séguedille
    Carmen's aria (Seguidilla), Act I: "Près des remparts de Séville"
  5. Les Dragons d'Alcala
    Interlude (Entr'acte) before Act II: "Foot Soldiers of Provincial Spain"
  6. Les Toréadors
