A symphonic tone poem but also considered by the composer a symphony; when later he wrote his Florentine Symphony (in F, op.87) he (I believe?) called that work his 2nd symphony. According to the Gesellschaft, he composed the prelude in 1868- was this movement lacking from the 1867 first edition?
