Authorship Note The composer of these works was previously unknown, and therefore listed under Anonymous. The 7th Suite survives in a second manuscript source in Berlin, where it is attributed to Valoÿ. This is probably the origin of the new attribution of these works to E. Valoix |

General Information

The Suites contain small trio sections, and in some cases it is indicated in the score that these are to played by violins, oboes, flutes or trumpets. In some suites, only trios for violins are indicated, but this also means that wind instruments would be otherwise playing. At the beginning of the Concerto (Suite No.2), the staves are labelled 'Dessus de violon', 'Haute contre', 'Taille', 'Basse concertante' & 'Basse continuë'. This may be an indication that only strings and continuo are intended in this particular work.
